Group Therapy in New York City From Comprehensive Counseling

Whether you’re struggling with a particular issue, or just can’t shake the feeling that there should be more to life, Comprehensive Counseling’s dedicated mental health professionals can help by providing you with the insight and tools you need to move beyond current obstacles. Comprehensive Counseling, LCSW offers in-person and virtual group therapy sessions throughout New York City to help treat a variety of conditions.

Virtual Bereavement Group for Adults

Tuesday evenings time to be determined Virtual on Zoom

Facilitator: James J. Baylis, LCSW-R

An Adelphi University trained psychotherapist will facilitate a 8-week group to provide a safe and supportive environment to permit members to express their many feelings related to the loss of their loved one.

  • Patient Profile: Adults who have experienced the loss of a significant other; (adjustment disorder or depressive disorder)
  • In network for 1199, Healthfirst, United Behavioral Health (UHC, Oxford, Oscar), Cigna, Aetna, BCBS, Metroplus or Self Pay $60 per session.
  • All participants must complete intake or be a current Comprehensive Counseling patient.

Virtual Anger Management Group for Adults

Saturdays at 1pm Virtual on MS Teams

Facilitator: Daisy Arriaga, LMSW

A CUNY Lehman College trained psychotherapist will utilize psychoeducation to develop insight on anger as a secondary feeling and how to cope with it in a healthy way. The participants of this group will be emailed an Anger Management workbook which will include weekly assignments to review the following group session.

  • Patient Profile: Adults who have experienced the loss of a significant other; (adjustment disorder or depressive disorder)
  • In network for 1199, Beacon: Commercial lines only, Fidelis and, Metroplus, Magellan
  • All participants must complete intake or be a current Comprehensive Counseling patient.

Virtual DBT Skill Building Group for Teens

Dialectical-behavioral therapy (DBT) skill-based group for teens, Starting 5/11/23

Thursdays at 7pm Virtually

Facilitator: Megan Leahey LCSW

  • Patient Profile: High School Aged or enrolled: 14-18. It is a DBT skills-based group Ideal for clients with depression diagnoses and clients struggling with emotional management and impulsivity but must be motivated and capable of being in a group without disruption.
  • In network: Healthfirst, 1199, Aetna, Fidelis, Affinity, Cigna, Beacon, BCBS, Humana, Medicare, and Oscar
  • All participants must complete intake or be a current Comprehensive Counseling patient

Virtual Group for Adults with Anxiety

Fridays at 1:30pm Virtual on Zoom

Facilitator: James Baylis, LCSW-R

A Columbia University trained psychotherapist will facilitate virtual Adult Anxiety Groups weekly on Fridays at 1:30pm on Zoom.

  • Patient Profile: Adults with moderate anxiety and young working professionals.
  • In network for 1199, Fidelis, MagnaCare, Humana, and Healthfirst.
  • All participants must complete intake or be a current Comprehensive Counseling patient.

Managing Anxiety using Yoga, Mindfulness and CBT

-Saturdays at 3pm Virtual (Zoom) – pending interest but hopeful to start on 4/1 at 3pm

Facilitator: Danielle Rivera, LMSW

A Columbia University trained Cognitive Behavioral Therapist and a Yoga Alliance registered 200-hour certified yoga teacher will host a 45-minute therapy group on how to develop coping strategies for managing mental health symptoms using mindfulness, yoga and breathwork. This group is appropriate for patient experiencing anxiety, depression and other mood related symptoms..

  • Teens and adults/ Able bodied individuals that can do basic yoga movements. Patients should be in good physical health or consult their PCP if not sure if basic yoga is appropriate for them.
  • In Network for 1199, Beacon: Commercial lines only, Fidelis and Healthfirst, Metro plus, Magellan or Self Pay.
  • All participants must complete intake or be a current Comprehensive Counseling patient.

 

INSIDE OUT: Virtual Self Esteem and Relationships group for TEENS

-Starting soon on Tuesday and Thursday evenings

Facilitator: Casey Scott, LMSW

The group offers support to adolescents navigating life, school, family, social media relationships, and self-identity through the Cognitive Behavior Therapy framework. The goal of this group is to find community, learn different coping skills, cognitive behavioral therapy interventions, and a space where you can feel 100% yourself without judgement.
